Automation

Policy Enforcement

Completely virtualised, totally dynamic, entirely automated. This is Union’s vision of the modern datacentre. Automation applies technology to the process of policy enforcement via automated run book activities such as system provisioning. This removes human error, speeds up process, releases expensive people resources to do more productive work, and manages computing resources more efficiently. Automation reduces cost, risk, and provides competitive edge through improved business service.

ITIL Control

Automation can be achieved within many areas of datacentre infrastructure, but it is in the virtualisation space, where mobility plays a key role, that its purpose and benefits are most clearly expressed. Build templates for virtual machines enable the request, approval, and commissioning process to be fully automated. This can be ITIL aligned, integrated with APIs supporting any manner of related technology resources such as storage, and managed via your service management desk.

Lifecycle Management

Systems can be attributed a life expectancy at the outset according to project cycles. As the retirement date of a virtual machine approaches, the relevant staff can be informed, and elect to extend or accept this date. The virtual machine is then retired in an appropriate fashion according to policy, and the valuable computing resources released back into the pool. This avoids VM sprawl and enables true utility computing within an aggregated infrastructure.
